It has taken my great-grandmother, Grandmother, Grandfather, A dog, Aunt, Cousin, Uncle and almost took my Dad, the other uncle and my dog. Not to mention many friends who have fought with cancer. It has affected me,tho have never had cancer myself.
SRoss82

caroline815
I know a ton of people who died or survived cancer. Died- my Dad of colon cancer, two friends of leukemia. Survived: Aunt, Uncle, friend. Surviving: I have a friend battling brain cancer, has had multiple operations.

It's caused me to have surgery. It's cost me 8 close family members. Watching many other friends and family members fight it has taught me how precious life is.
bgdellamarie
my sister just got a devastating diagnosis, yesterday, of large cell neoroendocrine lung cancer...I hate that I even have to come to sites like this one, but I'm glad it's here...
HelloKit
I lost my grandma to lung cancer about five years ago; two years ago a very close friend's mother died of liver/colon cancer; my mother-in-law is a breast cancer survivor; and I had my own scare a couple of years ago - thankfully was NOT cancer.
squish61
Lost my mom, too many friends and family died or are fighting. One day...
drew
My grandmother was a wonderful woman who had to fight breast cancer multiple times. Nobody should have to go through that.
sonsalli
It has given me a real understanding about living and loving life and the time we have left.

Cancer has taken from me my father, my brother, and my 22 year old daughter. It has taken the core of my very being. It has taught me that "it" is an enemy that must be defeated. Support cancer research!
thart46
A very dear frind wrote me a good-bye email yesterday. He has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and has a few months to live. But, he inspires me because he says he still has hope.
Explorer_Girl
I was diagnosed a month after watching my office mate of 12 years die a slow and painful death from cancer. His strength and dignity taught me all I needed to know to fight it.
wmmarc
Cancer has shown me that 'Hope' is much more powerful than I ever thought. My brother's Cancer has progressed throughout his body faster than anyone expected, but my brother has remained hopeful and has been an example to everyone he meets.

My grandfather passed away from pancreatic cancer when I was 9 and it changed everything in my world from that day father

3 years after surviving breast cancer, i find that i appreciate everyday i wake up in the morning. everyday things are more precious and my family means more to me. i also have a small nagging fear in the back of my mind i never had before.

Cancer took my grandmother, godmother and aunt, great-aunts, and threatened another aunt, grandfather, and more who survived it. It has tested the strength, courage, and grace of many people I love.
kirkskodis
My father in-law died of lung cancer 10 years ago and now my mother is in the very final stages of dying of lung and pancreatic cancer. These experiences motivate me to live healthy and fit so my own kids don't have to watch me die of cancer some day
ginnybug27
funny, how everytime i decide to have my porta-cath removed, i get a patient who is my age that is dying with cancer. that's the nagging fear i have.
behere_now
I lost my Grandpa to bowel cancer and for a long time, I was extremely angry about it. When I see people fighting the disease with courage and humour, it gives me hope that one day we will no longer have to fight at all.
awkward_sip
Cancer took two grandfathers that I never got a chance to know. My heart breaks a little when everyone tells me how alike I am to them.
PodcastPickle
My mother died. :(
hermenlesscher
Having had NHL, it has changed my position in life, I lost a lot of 'uninhibitedness'. And there is also the fear at every little pain or bump now, of course.
greenicycream
It has taught me that the smallest kind of support can go a long way. It has opened my heart to anyone affected with this disease and makes me want to join in the fight to eliminate Cancer!
split_open_melt
My father has been battling stage IV colon cancer for the past 16 months. It has completely changed my perspective on life, it has caused me to grow closer to my family, and it has drawn my personal committment to help defeat cancer in my lifetime.
SallyBrz
I'm an 11-year survivor of leukemia (ALL), lost both my grandfathers to cancer, and have seen many people I love suffer from this disease. It made me who I am, but now I'm using those lessons to help others avoid the experience whenever possible.
secretsquirrel_
Cancer took my grandfather, tho I was very young at the time and did not remember him much. It also took the life of a little girl I used to babysit. She fought it for a few years, but, ultimately, it took her life at the age of 5. Too damn young.
HallyNewman
It's slowly taking my family 1 by 1. seen as 1 in 3 estimated people are gonna get it, Its a worry. ive lost 3 grandparents, and my dad has lung cancer, and a separate cancer on his larynx. dont smoke kids.
Insomniac_Love
I've been "free" for five years only to be weary of many things. I've watched many amazing people that I love struggle and die... some of us have made it, pushing harder for them. You have to fight, not just for you but for everyone.
louisgray
I lost my grandfather to pancreatic cancer, have seen my aunt go through breast cancer, and my dad had testicular cancer. Now one of my best friends has cancer, but instead of shying away, he is fighting it - and I'm impressed.
eskimo83
Ive seen loved ones survive and lose the fight against the monster that is cancer. A recent test detected I have pre-cancerous cells. With Drew and so many others inspiring me, I know Ill be OK.
MelissaRowley
It has broken my heart and mended it back together again. It has shown me the strength of beauty of humanity.
amanda_nan
Cancer took my paternal grandparents when I was 8 within 6 mths of each other. It also took one of my closest HS guy friend's wife at the young age of 26. I'm ready to give cancer the middle finger for good.
berzerkeley
this year I've watched my best friend fight breast cancer. Chemo was hard. Radiation sucks, but the most challenging week? Double mastectomy on Friday; 40th Birthday on Wednesday. Puts everything else in perspective.
wehttam
I've known 4 people battle cancer, 3 won. On top of that my mum works as a Lung Cancer Specialist Nurse for Macmillan in the UK - she's amazing, and so is anyone who helps anyone through it, whatever the outcome!
Level3Media
Watched my mom fight and beat it and 2 dear friends are fighting it as we speak. And more recently, thanks to #BlameDrewsCancer and Drew Olanoff, it's inspired me to be an advocate for research and awareness.
jenz036
Unfortunately it took my most favorite unlce and left the lives of his 3 children and wife pretty shattered. He was a biz owner and I wish he was here to help me with mine :) SL <3

Cancer took my Materal Grandmother when I was 2 and My Maternal Grandfather when I was 17. I regreat never knowing my grandma and I miss my grandfather everyday. My paternal Grandmother now as bladder cancer.
Squid_Dynamite
It has shown me that horrible things can happen to anyone and everyone, and makes the true value of human lives apparent.
stressagequeen
Cancer took my breasts, it temporarily took my hair, eyelashes and eyebrows. It left me with permanent scars and side effects. It also gave me a stronger will to really, really LIVE. As said above, you continue to fight for yourself and others.
Dogvader
Cancer took away my fear. I am always ready for the fight. I am vigilant because I know cancer will forever walk beside me...waiting
GNP_Cancer
It has shown me that amazingly passionate people exist out there who work to make sure noone endures this battle alone. That in the face of inconceivable pain and suffering; strength, bravery, compassion, and hope push back.
J_OMalley
It took my fallopian tubes and my hair and my uterus and my dignity and my sense of embarrassment and caused my weight to plummet to 82 lbs...and I'm still here. I will fight it tooth and nail until breath leaves me.
windwhisper7
I've lost both parents to cancer, it's made me want to do something to cure it.
e28jay
Cancer took my Dad away from me this year. Cancer put me through 6 months of hell while going through chemo and a month of daily radiation. Now I want to use my expereience as a positive to help people. FUCK CANCER
girlierev
Cancer took my Da away from me before he could see his grandsons grow up, and continues to steal too many lives.
mathewballard
One of my grandmothers died from breast cancer. But, that is the closest cancer has gotten to me.
stlhood
We were married not even a year when it came for my wife. But she sent it packing. She is brave, strong and fortunate; I am proud, inspired, and incredibly grateful.
kirkskodis
Six and a half hours after I first posted on this tiny thread, my mom died of cancer. She was loved and will be missed.
J_OMalley
kirkskodis - For your father and your mother and all fathers and mothers and sisters, brothers, friends, children... we must wipe out this disease. My heart goes out to you tonight.
drew
last night i saw people come together who may never have met before. to fight one thing. cancer. and cancer will lose.
burrito19
My aunt died of metastatic melanoma. My mom survived basal cell carcinoma. My mother-in-law survived breast cancer. I work with kids with cancer daily and they have more fight in them than any other kids I've taken care of. Fight like hell.
radiocolin
My uncle died of lung cancer that spread to his bones, and my aunt died of the depression that followed his death. Two aunts fought and won against breast cancer. My father's childhood friend is currently waiting to die from Hodgkin's lymphoma.

My grandmother used to love to play the piano. As the brain cancer took over her mind, I watched her fingers struggle to play chopsticks.
Kram
Lost both parents to cancer when I was 29.
rsoulliere
I was diagnosed at 14 weeks pregnant with Stage II infiltrating ductal carcinoma (breast cancer) - had treatment, surgery all while pregnant. Reece Everest Soulliere was born 5 weeks early and perfectly healthy while I continued my treatment.
thinkmaya
My parents lost my brother to cancer - when he was only 5. With 2 little girls of my own today, I cannot imagine living through such a loss. My parents will never get over that ...
greenicycream
kirkskodis-- i am so sorry for your loss. this is why cancer has to be defeated.
tavdb
I've been diagnosed with cancer at 17, 35, and now 41. I don't fear it anymore - I know how to fight it.
notsovagabond
lung cancer is taking away my husband after only 4 years of marriage, thank god for the amazing hospice folks and the great cancer support community on the web. Cancer sucks and we must fight for more research and a cure!
austinherrera
my buddy fights it - beat it 4 times... hopefully there isnt a 5th - thats why i love the blamedrewscancer idea and the awareness it brings to the importance of giving to such a great cause - keep up the great work!

..woops, my dad had hodskins before I was born, chemotherapy hardened his arteries and he had quadruple bypass when I was 13, 19% of his blood was getting through his heart. Last year he needed a valve replaced & his heart was too damaged to survive
PAWeissenstein
I have lost too many friends to cancer as well as my older brother. Now I have both old and new friends IRL and through Social Media with it. I'm a diabetic but we really need to beat cancer at the same time!
MichaelWagner
It totally changed my life when I lost my wife of 26 years at the age of 53. I'ts been 4 years and I still think of her every day. I now live by a good quote from Warren Zevon "Enjoy every Sandwich"
sombutnotal
So far I have survived lung cancer. Lost upper right lobe but doing well. never smoked

5 years ago on April 1st I lost my 34 year old brother to testicular cancer. His chances were slim form the beginning, only went through about 10 months befire it took his life. Cancer took, from his entire family.
eedawson
Cancer showed me it can affect anyone, no matter who they are. It inspired to me to give whatever I can to help those who face it.
